Outpatient therapy at home is a great way to receive outpatient level physical and occupational therapy services covered under Medicare Part B (or your other commercial insurance plan), in the comfort of your own home. Outpatient services at home benefit those individuals who have maximized their need and potential under their homecare benefit although may still have limitations of transportation or desire in getting to an outpatient clinic. The therapist is able to come directly to your home, and bring any necessary equipment to provide the care you deserve.

Home Care Vs Outpatient Vs Outpatient at Home

Although both Homecare and Outpatient therapy services may have similar treatments and goals, there are many differences that will help in choosing the right service that fits your needs.

  • Traditional Home Care services are provided by licensed physical and occupational therapists who come to your home. These services are provided under a licensed homecare agency and directed/referred by your physician. This type of therapy is generally for populations with chronic illnesses or those recovering from recent surgeries or hospitalizations with limited mobility. Client’s are generally home-bound and these services allow them to receive the 1:1 care they need in order to improve their functional mobility and tasks.
  • Outpatient therapy services are typically performed in a clinic setting as the client has improved mobility and is able to obtain access to the clinic setting. Treatments are often focused on pain, increasing Range of motion, strength and mobility, improving balance and coordination in order to restore full functional potential.
  • Outpatient at Home services also known as Home based outpatient services have blended both the focus on improving safety and function in your environment with the traditional outpatient therapy concept. Services are provided on the outpatient level of care, in the comfort of your own home.
